The most detailed database available on the sediment of Lake Balaton has been released

Researchers from the Institute of Soil Science Institute have published a sediment database covering the entire bed of Lake Balaton for the scientific community. The Scientific Data journal, issued by Springer Nature (IF: 10.8, D1), publishes scientifically valuable datasets and their descriptions, facilitating broader use of the data. The database includes data from the period between 1978 and 1989, measuring sediment pH, lime, organic carbon content, total nitrogen, soluble phosphorus and potassium, as well as magnesium content from 4211 samples.

The open access to the database allows researchers studying the ecological state of the lake and internal nutrient loading processes to gain a more detailed understanding of the lake’s sediment conditions. It also enables the examination of the impact of climate change on nutrient loading.
