On June 27, 2022, the National Laboratory “AGROBIOTECHNOLOGY AND PRECISION BREEDING FOR FOOD SECURITY” The National Laboratory (NL) was officially launched. It was established with one of the most significant collaborations in the history of domestic agricultural research. Under the Hungarian Recovery and Resilience Plan the project receives a total of HUF 2.431 billion in grants from the European Union and the domestic budget for 4 years.

The NL is made up by The Eötvös Loránd Research Network Agricultural Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences, the ELKH Biological Research Centre of Szeged, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (with the Szent István Campus in Gödöllő, Kaposvár and Georgikon Campuses) and several subcontracting industrial partners (mainly SMEs).

The research work in the participating institutions, their professional experience and the unique infrastructure provide a solid basis for agricultural research to give scientifically proven responses to the recent challenges in agriculture.

Several hundred experts of the research community in the participating institutions with decades of accumulated experience and the unique infrastructure provide a solid basis for achieving the goals.

The project integrates the main components of the agroecosystem and the microbe-plant-animal triangle assigning food security of „One Health View” set up by WHO as a common goal. The National Laboratory is actively involved in national higher education, the training of future generations of scientists and knowledge transfer.
