A new species of springtail was discovered during the research with the participation of the researchers of the Institute of Soil Sciences

In a previous drought experiment on the sand dunes of the Kiskunság, researchers found a species of springtail (Entomobrya nigriventris) in high abundance. However, the scientific description of the species was not yet complete. They wanted to complete it based on the samples from the Kiskunság. During the investigation, it was revealed, that the species caught in the Kiskunság is not the same as the animal described from Simontornya as E. nigriventris. It was a species new to science. The name of the new springtail (Entomobrya arenaria) reflects its habitat, as the species lives in the sand steppes of Kiskunság, which is a dry habitat.

The results were published in Zookeys, which is rated Q1. Besides the description of the new species, the article deals with the redescription of E. nigriventris and gives an overview of morphologically similar species found in Hungary so far.
